I loved Lisa Graff's "Umbrella Summer" and this novel about connections and fate is equally as enjoyable. 11 year old Cady is an orphan who has no knowledge of her background. It is only through her dealings with various interesting characters that she untangles the knots to reveal her past. You will be reminded of Sarah Week's "Pie" as cake recipes dot the pages of the book, Ingrid Law's "Savvy" as most characters are blessed with a special "talent" and Sharon Creech's "The Great Unexpected" as characters who you did not think could be connected are. A magical heartwarming read!

Shame on me for having passed through my school days without having read this amazing book. I finally took the time to read it when my town chose it for a "One Town, One Book" selection. I so enjoyed everything about this book and wonder how my appreciation would have differed had I read it in my younger days.
