Fabiola Powell to read from memoir "Faith's Legacy"
Start: 4:00 pm
Join local author Fabiola Powell when she reads from her memoir, Faith's Legacy, which chronicles the Christian faith of her Haitian American family. ABOUT THE BOOK  Fabiola Powell takes us on a journey to uncover the legacy of faith of three generations of women—Rosetane, Marie and Nora—whose faith stood firm in the midst of a religious movement, political unrest and personal struggle.  Fabiola started writing this memoir eight years ago, after the difficult birth of her daughter. In the course of writing, Fabiola discovered that the legacy of faith her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother gave her was what really got her through her ordeal. She began to research her Haitian ancestry and discovered instances during which belief in God sustained her ancestors, and worked those stories into her book.  ABOUT THE AUTHOR Raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Fabiola Powell was born in Zaire, Africa before immigrating to the United States with her family in 1973. Fabiola’s challenging upbringing discussed in her family memoir, Faith’s Legacy, propelled her on a journey to find answers to life’s most  challenging questions. She lives in the metrowest area of Boston with her husband and children. Fabiola Powell attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and earned a B.A in English and Social Thought Political Economy with a  minor in African American Studies.  In 1998, she received her M.Ed in Counseling Psychology from Boston University and she serves as a professional school counselor.  Mrs. Powell’s interest lies in the ways in which psychology and faith can be integrated to bring about a better understanding of human behavior.
